Professor Guo Songtao is the doctoral supervisor of the School of Life Sciences, Northwestern University, deputy director of the Shaanxi Key Laboratory for Animal Conservation, the vice chairman of the Shaanxi Zoological Society, member of the International Primate Society, member of the Primate Expert Group of the Chinese Zoological Society, and the director and deputy secretary-general of the Chinese Primate Society. He has been engaged in large mammal conservation and molecular ecology research, mainly studying the population ecology, conservation and genetics of large wild animals including golden monkeys.

The research work has been funded by more than 20 scientific research projects, including 4 general projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 1 project of the Huo Yingdong Young Teachers Fund of the Ministry of Education, 1 project of the Wang Kuancheng Fund, 1 project of the American Primate Conservation Fund, and 1 project of the Ministry of Education. 1 new teacher fund project for doctoral programs, 1 Shaanxi Provincial Natural Science Foundation project and 1 Shaanxi Provincial University Natural Science Foundation.

As the backbone of the research team, he has presided over and participated in more than 20 key development projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Major Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, national and provincial-level projects. In 2020, he won the second prize of the 14th Natural Science Outstanding Paper Award of Shaanxi Province and the Rising Star Award of the First Chimelong Award of China Zoological Society; in 2019, he won the second prize of the Shaanxi Provincial Science and Technology Award (the ninth finisher); in 2018 Funded by the Shaanxi Sanqin Scholar Team and the Shaanxi Provincial Outstanding Youth Fund; won the first prize of the Shaanxi Provincial Youth Science and Technology Award in 2013 and the first prize of the Shaanxi Provincial Natural Science Outstanding Paper Award; in 2010, won the first prize of the Shaanxi Provincial Science and Technology Award (Second finisher) and the National Hundred Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Nomination Award; in 2009, he was awarded the title of "National Outstanding Young Ecological Worker".

Description of Research Group:Shaanxi Key Laboratory for Animal Conservation was established in January 2016 with the approval of the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Science and Technology. Based on the resource advantages of rare animals in Shaanxi Province, facing the urgent practical needs of the protection of endangered animal populations, it explores and solves wild rare and endangered animals. Major fundamental theoretical and applied fundamental issues in conservation, population rejuvenation, etc., and strive to form influential academic theories and conservation practice examples at home and abroad in the field of conservation biology research, and is the only comprehensive professional laboratory in our province that is engaged in research on wildlife conservation and utilization.
